Foster Care

Since 2001, we have been working to make college more affordable and accessible for youth in care and alumni in our state. We see a clear need to advocate for foster youth in our state and provide them with critical services to help them attain an education after they have aged out of the system.

We do this through programs for students, as well as educators and practitioners. For students, we offer Make It Happen! – an on-campus college experience that familiarizes foster youth with going to college. In addition, we provide students with peer mentoring support through the Passport Navigators program at ten college campuses in the state.

We also work with private and public partners to offer the Washington State Governors' Scholarship for Foster Youth, funded annually by the Governors' Cup golf tournament held in the fall. In addition, our Foster Care Initiatives Team facilitates the Washington Passport Network and offer Passport to College Summits -- both professional opportunities for adults working with foster youth through the Washington State Passport to College Promise Scholarship
